About Our Email Mailing ListsIn the early days of the museum, we only kept one email list. This single list served the purposes of our new museum, especially as we grew and became established. However, our needs have outgrown the old single list. The Sabre Society has two general types of membership. The first is for active volunteer members who participate on a monthy basis in operating the museum. The second is for sponsors, donors, and other friends of the museum. Each of these groups has different communication needs, so as of July 2008, we have divided our old mailing list into two categories: The Airmail list will now only contain active members. The new Announcements list will include everyone else. By changing our strategy we have moved around 45 names from the Airmail list to the Announcements list. This change will help us keep our mailings more specialized. We have changed the configuration of the Airmail list, so members may no longer add themselves without confirmation from our membership committee. The Announcements list is open so that members can add or remove themselves freely. Here is some information about how the list works. The software works by reading the "From" and "To" fields of your email message. It ignores the body of your message, so don't include anything there. If you want to subscribe to the email list, you may do so by sending a message to announcements-subscribe@hickoryaviationmuseum.org Likewise, if you want to remove yourself from the list, you can send a message to announcements-unsubscribe@hickoryaviationmuseum.org Be sure that you are sending these messages from the email account that you want to change! The software will automatically read the "From" field and that is how it knows who you are. Another way to add yourself to the list is to use the "contact" link at the top of the page. When you submit that form, it communicates with the email list software for you. After you send a message to the program, it will send a confirmation to your email address. Read the instructions in that confirmation letter; usually it will tell you to press "reply" and send a blank reply to a special address. This process is entirely automated, so the change will be effective immediately. If you are having trouble receiving any messages related to the email list, check your spam or junk email folder to be sure that your email program hasn't marked the program's messages as spam. Rest assured that your email address is considered confidential, and the Sabre Society never distributes that information to anyone else. In fact, one great benefit of the email list program is that your address is hidden from the other recipients, even further promoting your privacy. I'm sure this sounds silly to most of you, since you have known each other for years- but keep in mind that we hope for the email list to grow. Don't be surprised if we have hundreds of subscribers before long! If you would like to learn more about the software, you can read the more technical help file about the email list by sending a message to announcements-help@hickoryaviationmuseum.org.
