Warbird Rides with Texan FlightArticle by Mike Ginter and Jared YatesPhotos by Mike Ginter, Brian King, and Kyle Kirby
On Saturday our friends at Texan Flight, LLC joined us from Culpeper, Virginia. Navy Captain Mike Ginter and his crew flew their 1943 SNJ-5 Texan into Hickory as our special guests and provded rides in this historic warbird. You may recall that Captain Ginter also joined us as our guest speaker for the Grand Opening of the Hickory Aviation Museum and has visited the Museum recently with his Texan. Several members came out to try for a chance to win a ride in the member's raffle.
By Kyle's estimation, nearly 100 veterans came out to visit. As Kyle says, people in Hickory, especially the veterans that come out to visit on the first Saturday of each month, appreciate what we are doing by preserving history. We even had a few extra aircraft on the ramp on Saturday. Will Hill won the raffle for a ride in the SJN. Both Kyle and Brian got some good shots of him enjoying himself. Will has put in many hours of volunteer work at the museum, and we were all glad to see him win the ride.
The second winner of the member appreciation raffle was Mark 'Woody' Woodward. Mark is a WW II Navy veteran that served in both the Atlantic and Pacific.
