Volunteer Appreciation 2009On November 27th, we had a fantastic day at the museum. Linda Hill got some new show cases donated from Big Lots and we really put them to good use!! Special thanks to Brian King for helping me get them cleaned up, and also making a run to the hardware store to get other artifacts in place. Museum Director Jeff Wofford taxied in with the L-19 and we got to fly some of our hard working volunteers!!! Harvey Dancy was first and I am so glad he got to take a hop!!!! He deserves it as do all the others that put in so much time here!! It is great to be able to give a little something back to these fine folks!!Next in line for a ride was Ray Butkiewicz. Ray has been a Godsend to the museum and was an air traffic controller in New York!! It is great to have good help here at HAM!! Fly as is Ray!! My friend Nathan Merique was next in line. This kid never ceases to amaze me!! Heck, he reminds me of me!! He has put WW II uniforms on loan here that he has gotten off Ebay. As well, he does great things for our veterans on a regular basis. I hope he rubs off on his teen peers!!! I love this kid and am so glad he got a ride!! Linda Hill has a heart as big as the state of Pennsylvania!! She never ceases to amaze me at her willingness to make this museum a BIG reality!! She always gives and gives and has been a wonderful addition to our museum. I am glad she is here and she got a ride!!! Jim Malcolm has been with our organization a long time!! He has contributed a lot to the museum through his model building skills and other ideas!! He has flown the L-19 many times in the past and I'm glad he got a ride in this one (this time in the back seat). Jeff is waiting for me to snap a shot so they can GO!! Linda looks happy after her ride!!
On deck now is Brian King. Brian is a recent addition to the museum. I am very glad he is here with us. This guy wields a MEAN camera and brings many more resources to the table!! As with all of the above, he has also become a friend!! I want to thank all the volunteers for their outstanding work they provide here!!
Next my adopted step father gets a ride!! After flying for over 40 years and amassing over 37,000 hours in his career, I am glad Pop (Bob Morgan) was willing to go up!! He just crawled up in the cockpit with NO problem at 84 years young!! Check out his Middle East photos on the site here!! AWESOME and thank you Bob for allowing us to use them!! Also, I want to extend a personal thank you to our Director Jeff Wofford for doing this for the troops!! You can tell by the smile on his face he enjoys it!! Also you can tell by Capt. Morgan how he feels about me!! This is truly PRICELESS!! If you want to meet a man that truly helped shape the Golden Age of Aviation, Bob is almost always at the museum on Sunday afternoons!! I highly recommend you come out and talk to him..he's pretty colorful and it is a privilege for all of us to share his company as with all of our veterans.
I was last (where I should be). Thanks again to Jeff! He ain't a bad pilot! Thought I would snap a nice shot of the museum from on high! This was a fun day to give a little back to the museum staff! I had fun flying, but enjoyed everyones smiles even more!! A HEARTY THANK YOU to all of you!!!
Thanks to all of our volunteers! |
