Mack Means

Photo by Kyle Kirby This is Mack Means and his friend Bill Eppley. Mack attended the WW II flight school at Lenoir-Rhyne, and also did his early training here at the Hickory Airport. Mack went on to fly the F6F Hellcat in the US Navy and had nothing but praise for the rugged Grumman fighter. He said he put it all behind him and doesn't remember which units he flew with. Bill said he had pictures and I hope to get to do a little research on them. Linda broke out the DVD that John Terrell's daughter gave us from the early 40s here at the airport and Mack really enjoyed watching the movies! He probably flew the aircraft in the film! Mack plans to come see us on a regular basis. I sure hope so!!
